Technical writing and editing for your global communications needs
Provide your users with clear and accessible documentation to improve your company’s customer and business relations. By creating accessible instructional, conceptual, and reference documentation, your clients can count on being able to understand how your products work and why they work that way. My technical communications services ensure that the documentation your company produces is available to all in an increasingly global market.
I incorporate my background in copy editing, education, and translation to ensure that your user-facing and internal documentation remains accessible to all. My writing and editing focuses on coherent copy, communicating technical information in a clear way to your audience.
Benefits of accessible documentation
Accessible technical documentation provides your customers, business partners, and employees with information that they need, when they need it. Users referring to technical documentation often need specific information, quickly. Providing that information in an easy-to-understand way helps your clients use your products effectively.
Consider my technical writing services if:
You need written technical documentation, including user guides, troubleshooting guides, white papers, reference documentation, and so on.
You have existing documentation that needs to be edited for clarity, consistency, coherency, following a specific style guide.
You plan to have your documentation used by non-native English speakers, translated using machine translation software, or translated by a professional translator.
You want your documentation to follow the best practices of global English.
Why global documentation helps you
Increasingly, our product users and teams are located globally, representing a rich linguistic background and diverse product applications. Well organized, concise, and accurate documentation helps your product users, business partners, and employees make the most out of your products.
Benefits of good documentation include:
Improving your brand with consistent style application across product marketing and documentation.
Reducing mistranslation through translation vetting and identifying inaccurate information before documentation is sent to a translator.
Reducing labor costs associated with product support, as customers can find the information they need without needing to call a helpline.
Increasing user-satisfaction by giving product users the information necessary to appropriately use your products.
My technical communication services
I use my experience throughout language services, including Japanese to English translation, Business to Business (B2B) copy editing, and English as a foreign language teaching, to help you publish the best documentation for your company.
Specifically, I provide the following services.
Technical writing: I write technical documentation such as user guides, reference guides, and the such for your company.
Technical editing: I review existing documentation, applying a consistent house style while improving readability and reducing illogical constructions that could confuse product users.
Translation vetting: I review documentation that has been translated into English from Japanese for accuracy, identifying mistranslations from the original.
ESL and American English transcription: I convert documents writing using English as a second language English into American English, or documents written in American English into ESL appropriate language using the conventions of global English.

My expertise in language services
Throughout the last 7 years, I have worked throughout language services, focusing on translation and localization, education, and editing. Now I incorporate those experiences to specialize my technical writing and editing for a global audience.
For this, I follow three special-interest standards in my technical communications.
Accessibility: Following principles for global communications, my documentation is optimized for non-native speakers of English, machine-translation, and translators, by using consistent terminology and identifying logical gaps. My documentation also aims to be section 508 compliant and designed with those using screen-reading software in mind.
Consistency: Ensuring documentation across your brand projects a professional image to your customers. In my time as a copy editor, I coordinated in-house style guides with general style guides to produce clear and consistent B2B documentation. I apply the same stylistic consistency in my technical communications. If your company does not yet have an in-house style guide for your publications, set up a consultation for me to create one for you!
Accuracy: Inaccurate documentation damages your company’s reputation, frustrates your users, and increases subsequent labor costs. By supplying users with accurate documentation, client satisfaction is increased while labor costs at call centers decrease. Identifying potential ambiguity also limits misuse of your company’s products, and mistranslation as your documentation is adopted on the global market.
